(Champaign-jm) -- Two more Illinois football players announced Wednesday they are leaving the program. Illinois Quarterback’s Jeff George Jr and Cayce Crouch are the latest to announce they are leaving the football program. George started nine games over the past season completing 48 percent of his passes. He will have two years of eligibility remaining. Crouch announced he is ending his football career. Illinois currently has just one scholarship quarterback on the roster: sophomore Cam Thomas.

(Green Bay-jm) -- The Green Bay Packers have filled both open coordinator positions. Multiple media outlets are reporting former offensive coordinator Joe Philbin has agreed to come back to his former position. The team also is hiring Mike Pettine as the team’s defensive coordinator.

 

(Champaign-dg)-The St.Louis Cardinal Caravan will be making a stop at the Hilton Garden Inn in Champaign Friday from noon until 2:30. Former Illinois St. Redbird infielder Paul DeJong headlines the event. Other Cardinals that will appear are Outfielder Oscar Mercado, Catcher Andrew Kinzinger, and former players Randy Flores, and Alan Benes. Ex-pitcher Ricky Horton will serve as MC. This event is free to attend and the first 400 kids 15 and under will receive a free autograph ticket which guarantees one autograph from each current and former player. The Caravan will move to Peoria later on  Friday and to Bloomington at the Parke Regency Hotel at 4:30 on Saturday.


 

(St. Louis-jm) -- The St. Louis Blues sent three players who didn't have to go through waivers: forwards Ivan Barbashev and Tage Thompson and defenseman Vince Dunn, to the AHL on Wednesday so they can get some work in during the Blues' NHL bye week.

Former University of Illinois Linebacker and Dick Butkus Award winner, Dana Howard has been named a member of  the 2018 College Football Hall of Fame. Howard is Illinois’ career tackles leader with 595.


 

(Chicago-jm) -- The Bears named Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy as their new head coach, the team announced Monday. Nagy replaces John Fox, who was fired after posting a 14-34 record in three seasons.

 

(Green Bay-jm) -- The Green Bay Packers have hired Brian Gutekunst to replace Ted Thompson as general manager. The Packers also announced that Russ Ball, will return and was promoted to executive vice president/football operations.

 

(Undated-jm) -- Villanova is back at #1 in the latest College Basketball Poll. West Virginia, Virginia and Michigan State round out the top 4 with Purdue and Wichita State tied for #5. Duke, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Xavier round out the top 10. Arizona State, Kansas, Seton Hall, Cincinnati, Gonzaga, TCU, Arizona, Miami, Clemson and North Carolina round out the top 20. Kentucky, Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee and Creighton round out the top 25. Ohio State and Michigan both received votes to be ranked.

(Green Bay-jm) -- The Green Bay Packers are giving head coach Mike McCarthy a one year extension on his contract. McCarthy is 131-78-1 with one Super Bowl in his 12 NFL seasons. The new deal keeps McCarthy under contract through the 2019 season.

(Chicago-jm) -- The Chicago Bears fired Coach John Fox Monday. Fox was 14 and 34 in three seasons with the Bears. That wasn’t the only move the Bears made Monday. They extended general manager Ryan Pace’s contract through 2021.

 

(Indianapolis-jm) -- The Indianapolis Colts have fired Coach Chuck Pagano after six seasons. Pagano went 53-45. The Colts have requested interviews with New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniel and Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.



 

(Green Bay-jm) -- In a move that surprised many in the NFL, the Green Bay Packers have removed Ted Thompson as general manager. Thompson is credited with drafting Aaron Rodgers, hiring coach Mike McCarthy and building a Super Bowl Champion team. He will stay on in an advisory role. The Packers also let go defensive coordinator Dom Capers, inside linebackers coach Scott McCurley and defensive line coach Mike Trgovac.
